Driven to Read is a non-profit merit based reading program designed to encourage youngsters to increase their reading proficiency through the power of racing. Aimed at elementary age readers, kids in the program must read for 15 minutes to gain 1 mile on the track. At preset intervals young readers earn prizes in recognition of their accomplishments. The greater the mileage the greater the reward. Driven to Read visits schools to launch the program, bringing along race cars, haulers and drivers and uses a racing theme to inspire student participation.
The Driven to Read curriculum is a proven success. Dusty’s mom, Sandy Davis is the President of Driven to Read. Sandy has a MA in Elementary Education plus 34 graduate credits in the area of reading instruction. Sandy worked for the Clark County School District for 23 years, serving as a classroom teacher and mentor in grades K-5. Sandy also spent 10 years on special assignment with the Nevada State Department of Education as a Regional Trainer. Dusty has a reading disability and knows firsthand the challenges of reading and becoming a good reader. Sandy and Dusty together have a tremendous passion to help kids read more and become better readers. Driven to Read is a great tool to help our partners build brand loyalty within the community.
